Guide: How to create a new project

Video coming soon

In this guide, you'll learn how to create a new project on Dotenv. It only takes a minute or two.

Step 1

Visit the new project page.

Choose the organization and enter a project name. Click create project. You'll note that this process is very similar to creating a project on GitHub.

Step 2

On the next screen, you will be greeted with a list of instructions to follow.

cd into your project on your machine. This could be a Nodejs project, a React project, a Python project, anything really.

Then just follow those instructions.

Side note: If you don't have a project but still want to follow this guide, simply make a folder to represent the project. Run mkdir demo-app and cd into it.

Step 3

That's it! Your project is created and you will have synced your first .env file.

Next learn further how to push and pull secrets. You'll find it very similar to git.

Thank you for using Dotenv. We hope you get stoked on it! 😎
