Guide: How to push secrets

In this guide, you'll learn how to push secret changes using Dotenv. It only takes a few minutes.

Step 1

You should have a .env, .env.me, and .env.project file in the root directory of your project.

Open up your .env file and make a change in it. For example, add the new secret STRIPE_API_KEY=secret1234.

Save and close the file.

Step 2

Run the command npx dotenv-vault push.

This will securely push your secret changes to your project at Dotenv.

Step 3

That's it!

Each time you change your .env file, run npx dotenv-vault push.

In the next video, learn how to pull secret changes. This is useful when a team member makes a secret change and you want to have the latest locally.

Thank you for using Dotenv. We hope you are getting stoked on it! 😎
